Tasting Notes

Prune ∙ Pineapple ∙ Citrus ∙ Soy Sauce

Most folks know Kashmiri chillies as mild and colourful, an old myth that traders without access to true Kashmiri mirch perpetuated so that they could sell their lesser, milder chillies. Well, this is the real deal! Acidic and savoury with notes of prune, pineapple, citrus, and soy sauce, these pack a real punch!

“I truly appreciate chilies like this that have heat, but are FLAVOR spicy, not just melt-my-face-off hot. I also like that I don't need much to give things a bit of a kick.”
- Sandra O.

  • Grown by the Farukh family on their ancestral land in Pulwama in the Kashmir valley, from seed that has been passed down for generations, alongside purple stripe heirloom garlic. This is true Kashmiri mirch - hot as ever, and with that deep color and heat that iconic Kashmiri dishes like our farm partner Bashir Ahmed's famous rogan josht is known for!

FAQs

Yes! All our spices are 100% pesticide and chemical free (we lab test every harvest!), and all our partners are regenerative and natural farmers dedicated to taking care of their land and soil, but the organic certs in India are VERY expensive, and a 4 year process. So whilst some of our farm partners are in the process of being certified, many do not feel it is worth the cost, and that given that their product is the highest quality, they shouldn't need to pay a Western certifying body to tell them that!

Most of the spices are good 2 years from the mill date, which is listed on the harvest label sticker on the jar or bag. That being said, our spices are extremely potent and fresh as we take incredible care to source yearly and aim for quality, so 2 years is our most conservative guideline, compared to most spices in the grocery store which are often 5-10 years old upon purchase.

We do! You can search for our wholesalers using our store locator here. And if you are a wholesaler and don’t see yourself on the locator, please email wholesale@diasporaco.com and we will add you to this ASAP! Thank you!

Store them in an airtight container in a dark, dry place. Do not store spices in direct sunlight, as this will shorten their shelf life.
